Being StressWise in the Workplace
Work related stress is a major problem of epidemic proportions in the Australian workplace. Not only are individual workers suffering on a health and wellbeing level, but also is workplace morale, turnover, performance and productivity.
Workplace stress can be caused by long working hours, extensive workload and deadlines, inadequate resources, safety issues, bullying, harassment and discrimination, lack of communication and support and poor working relationships with bosses and colleagues, high financial responsibilities, job insecurities, climbing the corporate ladder, keeping up to date with workplace and policy changes and combining work and personal lives.
Workplace demands are increasing and so are the effects on people’s health. According to the National Health and Safety Commission, work-related stress accounts for the longest stretches of absenteeism. Work-related stress is the second most common compensated illness/injury in Australia.
Stress creates an imbalance on physical, mental and emotional levels.
When stressed, our bodies contract and tighten and the body’s organs and systems function with effort and strain. We become fatigued, moody and irritable and breathing becomes shallow, laboured and restricted and incrementally over time, this mode of living becomes “normal”.
Whether we are teachers, busy executives, pilots, nurses, tradesmen, retail assistants, parents or whatever our role is in society, we are all no different. We all feel the impact of our personal and professional lives on our health and state of wellness.
Being StressWise in the Workplace is a comprehensive stress management, health and wellbeing program designed for staff who would like to better reduce and manage stress, anxiety and fatigue, learn relaxation skills, improve and deepen breathing, reduce body tension and maintain a physical, emotional and mental balance in life and in the midst of stressful situations in the workplace.
By participating in the Being StressWise in the Workplace program, participants have the opportunity on a personal level to feel healthier, more balanced and energetic. On a professional level, this will ultimately improve staff morale and retention and workplace performance and productivity.
